Thanks to e-mail, these poor old letter boxes are going hungry these days! This one can actually be dated, like most of the older British mailboxes. The initials on the front tell you which monarch was reigning at the time. This one is marked VR: Victoria Regina, so we know that it was installed prior to 1901. In fact, I know that this pillarbox was installed in the 1870s!
For us in the Americas that seems a very great age indeed.
